Target is facing criticism for stocking Black History Month material with inaccuracies, specifically misidentifying important Black figures.
An individual known as TikToker @Issatete highlighted this issue by sharing a viral video of a learning activity book named “Civil Rights” that she reportedly found at a Target store.

Although the book is produced by Bendon, the concerns are directed towards Target for retailing these books, allegedly containing mismatches between the names and photos of prominent Black figures.
Instances of completely mislabeled names have been identified, prompting outrage and a call for immediate action from Issatete.
The individual, purportedly a U.S. history educator, pointed out the inaccuracies, such as the mismatches between the images and names of historical figures in the magnet-style learning activity book.
The book is reported to contain images with mislabeled names, such as confusing W.E.B. Du Bois with Booker T. Washington, leading to confusion and discontent.
The TikToker urges immediate action, emphasizing that while mistakes can happen, it’s essential to address and rectify them promptly. The call is made to remove the product from Target’s inventory.
Many individuals expressing discontent in the comments question the absence of proofreading before the publication of the book.
While some speculate on the possibility of deliberate errors, the notion is deemed unlikely as it would be too outrageous to consider intentional mislabeling.

The timing of this issue, on the brink of Black History Month, is exceptionally unfortunate for both Target and the book’s publisher.
Target and Bendon have been contacted for comment, but no response has been received at this time.
