Gucci Mane is undergoing quite a transformation. His label, 1017 Records, is struggling financially, compelling him to make a tough call: to part ways with all his artists while reestablishing his brand. However, he’s hanging onto proven talents, Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano!
He disclosed that he informed the artists and their legal representatives prior to making the announcement about his decision. Despite the shake-up, he chose to terminate contracts to allow them the freedom to explore new opportunities.
Even with the successful endeavors of Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano, the label has faced severe challenges since rebranding to “The New 1017” in 2020.
The hardships amplified with the tragic losses of artists Enchanting and Big Scarr, both falling victim to drug overdoses in December 2022 and June 2024, respectively, leaving the label teetering on the brink.
Adding to the strife, Texas rapper HotBoy Wes already received a lengthy 15-year prison sentence early this year, closely following the first-degree murder charges involving another 1017 recruit, Mac Critter.
Despite the tumultuous period, Gucci has not lost hope. He’s actively seeking new talent to fill the roster at his label, promising that the path ahead is open for aspiring artists.
It’s worth noting that both Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano are currently serving five-year sentences, adding another layer to the complexity of Gucci’s label predicament.
