In a humorous twist, Dwyane Wade‘s newly unveiled statue is under fire not just from social media critics, but also from NBA legend Chris Webber. During a casual encounter with TMZ Sports, Webber joked that the monument bears a striking resemblance to Morpheus from “The Matrix.”
Webber was spotted at LAX and couldn’t resist poking fun at Wade’s statue, which was recently inaugurated at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
In a lighthearted manner, Webber humorously pointed out that the statue resembles not only Morpheus but also Laurence Fishburne and even Chris Rock‘s character Pookie from “New Jack City.”
With a laugh, Webber added, “It also looks like the lead singer from ‘The Five Heartbeats‘ when he was performing.”
However, Webber was quick to clarify that his comments weren’t an insult towards Wade. He actually considers Dwyane to be the third-best shooting guard of all time, following Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Despite the ribbing, Webber appreciated Wade’s ability to take it all in stride, noting that he too could laugh at his statue’s depiction.
Webber suggested that sculptors might want to spend more personal time with their subjects to ensure a more accurate portrayal, rather than relying solely on photographs during the sculpting process.
