Yvonne Orji Hosts A ‘Night of Nigerian Excellence’ For Nigerian Independence Day & Celebrates New HBO Special ‘A Whole Me’, Issa Rae & Others Attend

On Saturday, October 1, the Insecure alum hosted the 2022 Night of Nigerian Excellence at Beauty & Essex in Los Angeles.

Held in honor of Nigerian Independence Day, a few of the Nigerian American starlet’ previous costars–consisting of Issa Rae and Kendrick Sampson–remained in participation for the night, in addition to other cherished Nigerian stars.

This event comes as Orji launches her most current funny special: A Whole Me. Following the success of her launching unique Momma, I Made It! back in 2020, Yvonne signed up with HBO as soon as again, entitling the program with a double entendre of a popular Nigerian expression.

“I actually taped Momma, I Made It! on February 29th — God provided me an additional day,” Orji informed Shadow and Act, exposing her very first special was taped right prior to the pandemic. “And March 13th, the world closed down…The initially one came out in the middle of the Black Lives Matter motion and whatever that was going on. So, it was simply wild.”

She continued, “And then individuals required the levity, however then as soon as the work type of stopped, the work started due to the fact that then it was the internal work that I needed to do. When you put on’t have the diversion of the outdoors work, you gotta figure you out.”

Yvonne went on  to inform the publication about her wish for this funny unique to work as a method for the Black neighborhood to begin having hard discussions by coming together through laughter.

“I talk in the unique about how I believe everyone [needs therapy], specifically African Americans. There’s been a lot injury,” she stated. “Bringing African Americans to America, distressing. Already in the ancestral line of what it suggests to be an African American in America. Whenever individuals resemble, ‘I put on’t requirement treatment. I’m excellent on that.’ It’s like, no all of us do.”

Orji continued, “Hopefully not just when Nigerians see this, when African Americans see, there’s great deals of subjects that I understand that it’s hard for us to have the discussion either with our moms and dads or with our pals. But I’m like, ‘Hey, take a look at me. I’m doing it for you.’”
