J-Sette Skirmish: USC Student Posts Video Of Her Black ‘Majorette’ Dance Team, HBCU Vs. PWI Debate Ensues–As Always

So, a Black trainee at the University of Southern California published a video of her Black dance group and, BOOM, we’re best smack dab in the middle of another HBCU vs. PWI dispute. This one functions “well, actuallys” about the design of dancing taking place and snarky remarks about the trainee’s choice to bring something included at Historically Black Colleges to a white school.

Buckle up for this Boomkack kerfuffle

@Princesslang0 Proudly Posted A USC Majorette Video That Went Viral

NewsOne reports that Twitter user and University of Southern California trainee @Princesslang0 published an 8-second clip that revealed a group of smiling young Black ladies dancing in sync with each other as a crowd of white fans cheer in the background at the predominately white organization (PWI).

“oh absolutely nothing… i developed a majorette group at a PWI and carried out at our very first video game,” the tweet stated. “really though i’m so blessed and can’t thank God enough. Thank you to my moms and dads and to everybody who supported me along this LONG journey. and my ladies FYE The Cardinal Divas of SC are UP NEXT.”

But what appeared to be a minute of pride for Princess rapidly degenerated into the continuous dispute about Black culture at white colleges.

Specifically, the culture connected with traditionally Black institution of higher learnings (HBCUs) on PWI schools.

Now, to be reasonable, this isn’t the exact same extremely simplified dispute about whether Black individuals must go to historically Black colleges and universities where we’re more in the house, or predominately white organizations where we’rewellnot. This, in my viewpoint, is a more fascinating dispute about keeping the culture within the culture vs. Black individuals’s right to take a location on their own in a predominately white environment.

Unfortunately, this dispute will play out on Twitter where it isn’t a lot an argument as much as it is a 280-character free-for-all viewpoint salad.

Additionally, individuals are keeping in mind that these girls at USC are not majorettes who usually twirl with batons. Instead, they must be thought about a drill group or J-Settes like the famous Prancing J-Settes at Jackson State University.

For the record; I definitely get why these discussions are very important—and once again, in this circumstances, it’s an intriguing non-debatehowever I still typically discover myself seriously worried about Black individuals’s capability to delight in actually anything.

But given that we’re here, here’s an idea, perhaps we must think about that we put on’t understand this trainee’s story.

Maybe sis’ might have gone to an HBCU—however she didn’t. And unless we have intimate understanding of her college approval journey, scholastic instructions, or tuition payment circumstance, we may think about that we put on’t understand enough to state where she ought to have gone.

Either method she wound up at USC and USC is traditionally whiter than a clean dalmatian in the snow—so perhaps sis’ simply required some Blaxtracurricular activities. That’s all I’m sayin’.

Princess’ video is practically comparable to one published by Saweetie from her San Diego State dancing days.
