Michael Strahan disclosed on his own show that his daughter was recently diagnosed with a rare brain cancer. This revelation sheds light on his prolonged absence from both of his TV jobs during the fall.
The ‘GMA’ host, alongside his coworker Robin Roberts, discussed the situation on the ABC program. They revealed that his 19-year-old daughter, Isabella, has been undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumor discovered in October.
The type of cancer, known as medulloblastoma, was elaborated by Roberts during the segment. She provided details about the size of the tumor, likening it to a golf ball and its location at the base of Isabella’s skull.
Following the tumor discovery, Isabella underwent emergency surgery at Cedars-Sinai in L.A., where Michael’s daughter was attending college at USC.
Upon learning about the situation, Michael immediately traveled to the West Coast, despite normally working in NYC, to be by Isabella’s side for an extended period. This explains his absence from ‘GMA’ and Fox NFL Sunday during that period.
The procedure to remove the tumor seemed to have been successful, with the operation taking place around her 19th birthday. Subsequently, her recovery was lengthy and challenging.
Currently, Isabella is showing signs of improvement as she continues to receive treatment, including radiation, resulting in hair loss. In February, she is expected to commence chemotherapy. Undoubtedly, the entire journey has been challenging for the family.
Strahan mentions that the recent health scare has given him a new perspective on life’s priorities. Isabella is eagerly anticipating getting back to normalcy once her treatments are completed.
