According to reports, newly married royal, Meghan Markle is finding some difficulty getting acclimated to royal ways, PEOPLE reports.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly asking a lot of questions about royal protocol and the meaning behind adhering to some of the Queen’s preferences.

Markle “has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way,” a source tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story.

“I think she finds it a little frustrating at times, but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it,” the source adds.

Markle has seemingly navigated her new life with ease if you’re just going by her most recent royal outings with Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth. She talks to the locals and shake hands with a natural smile and there haven’t been too many public hiccups, except when she tried to hold her husband’s hand while next to the Queen, which is a big no-no (part of that confusing protocol.) Prince Harry discreetly clasped his hands to prevent another public display of affection.

Markle is still riding the learning curve of being a royal. It’s all a part of the “stoic values” of their generation, royal biographer Gyles Brandreth once told PEOPLE.

There’s still a lot to learn in the royal handbook including when and where to share personal political beliefs. After a recent visit to Ireland, Markle apparently said that she was “pleased to see the result” of Ireland’s recent referendum to legalize abortion, reports PEOPLE.

“Within the royal family they talk freely, and everyone knows the rules. She’s learning the hard way that you can’t trust anyone outside the narrow circle,” said Crown historical consultant and royal biographer, Robert Lacey.

“You can see Prince Harry’s hands-on approach, steering her, helping her,” photographer Mark Stewart tells PEOPLE.
