Less than three days after the June 18 murder of rapper XXXTentacion (aka Jahseh Onfroy) in Deerfield Beach, Florida, local authorities arrested Dedrick D. Williams. The 22-year-old Pompano Beach resident was charged with first-degree murder, in addition to violating probation for a prior charge related to car theft and driving without a valid license. He is currently awaiting trial and being held without bail.
Yesterday (July 10), a second suspect in the killing was arrested. According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office press release, Michael Boatwright was served with a first-degree murder arrest warrant in connection to the murder. The 22-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident was already in custody at the Broward Sheriffs Office main jail from a July 5 drug arrest.
The press release also states that police are seeking at least two other individuals in connection with the June 18 fatal robbery.
Since XXXTentacion’s passing, his “SAD!” single reached 1 on the charts. The moment was the first time a deceased solo artist’s single topped the charts since Biggie Smalls’ (aka The Notorious B.I.G.) did so in 1997 with “Hypnotize.” A chilling video to the song, filmed ahead of the rapper’s death, portrayed him in a casket at a viewing. On June 27, Onfoy’s actual funeral was held and was open to the public.
This week, a New York Times report claimed that several unnamed sources told the newspaper that XXX’ had signed an eight-figure deal with EMPIRE for his ? follow-up. Earlier this year, the rapper’s Bad Vibes Forever release also debuted at the top of the album charts.
