LA Fitness Fires 3 Workers Caught In Controversial Video Harassing Two Black Gym Patrons

SECAUCUS, NEW JERSEY — Wooo! Vengeance came quick! Looks like the racially biased management team who kicked out two Black members from the gym now find themselves unemployed.

According to New Jersey Advance Media, L.A. Fitness has officially fired the manager and two employees at the Secaucus gym where two Black men were kicked out Monday night. The incident was captured on video and shared via Facebook by Tshyrad Oate.

The source reports that it called the gym location for an update, and an employee answered the phone saying the manager who appeared in the footage had been “removed from the company.”

If you remember from one of the videos, the manager had pointed at Oates’ friend and said, “you’re not allowed to film here.” However, police officers stepped in to protect the gym members who were obviously being harassed.

In the video, one police officer said to the manager, “You guys don’t like cell phones, I get it, but it’s not criminal activity.”

Likewise — as you might have seen from the previous Black Loop report — the two women who were working that evening, who also badgered the men, are no longer employees either, according to the employee that answered the phone. The source says he only gave his first name, Josos.

“I know the incident was really bad,” Josos mentioned.

L.A. Fitness actually emailed a statement to New Jersey Advance Media on Wednesday evening. The company has apologized to the customer and made it clear that his membership is still very much valid. The email read as follows.

“Regrettably, our staff unnecessarily escalated the situation and called the police rather than work through it. Clearly, this is a long time member with a current, valid membership. We want to clarify that no membership was cancelled and no one, including the member’s guest, was banned from the club. We have spoken to the member to apologize and assured him that he and his guests are welcome in our clubs at all times.”

In its statement, according to the source, L.A. Fitness mentioned that the employee who asked for the customer’s membership card after he previously scanned wasn’t working when the man checked in the first time, “so she was unaware,” says the company.

In a previous Black Loop report, Oates stated that the woman asked him if his friend had checked in.

“My friend stated to her that he is an active and current member and that his gym tag was in his locker. He felt racially profiled and embarrassed by the harassment of this LA Fitness employee in front of other members at the gym. We continued our workout and next thing we know 2 policemen show up questioning us on why we were their with no memberships.”

However, the company says it’s “exploring potential training content and opportunities to better train our staff” — especially with this happening so close to Starbucks‘ “racial bias” training.

Obviously, corporate needed to hurry up and make something happen. From a look at the L.A. Fitness – Secaucus Yelp page, they’re down to 1 star and stacks of bad reviews.

For instance, Jennifer N. mentioned as follows.

“I’m not from here, but after all the social media and the racial profiling… I had to find this place and let YALL KNOW YOU NEED TO FIRE YOUR RACIST EMPLOYEES THANKS.”

Too, Sam S. left a comment on the page, as follows.

“Racist employees. Don’t waste your money here unless you feel like being harassed, police called on you and kicked out for being black! Terrible!!!!!!!!!!”

So far, there have been over 186 comments made to the page, and they’re only continuing to pile up it seems.

(Shoulder shrugs)…
