SECAUCUS, NEW JERSEY — A man recently took a guest to LA Fitness to work out, and management was suspicious of them…and called police. Officers were just as confused as the other gym members.
According to Tshyrad Oate, he had gone to the Secaucus location to work out with a friend of his.
“I signed in under a 4-day guest pass, and he was already at the gym and a current member of the club,” Oate mentions in his Facebook post.
As it turns out, his friend was actually a 7-year LA Fitness gym member.
“After about a half hour, I was approached by this same employee telling me that I had to leave or pay and I explained to her that I just signed in with her with the guest pass,” Oate continues. “She stated that it was my friend who did not pay (unaware that her manager had already signed him in with his membership pass).”
“My friend stated to her that he is an active and current member and that his gym tag was in his locker. He felt racially profiled and embarrassed by the harassment of this La Fitness employee in front of other members at the gym. We continued our workout and next thing we know 2 policemen show up questioning us on why we were their with no memberships.”
According to Oate, they discussed the situation to the officers.
“We explained to them about our guest pass and rescanned my friend’s member tag and it resulted in current active statues,” Oates stated in his Facebook post. “The LA Fitness employee did look at the computer screen that showed current member status and said nothing.”
Mind you, when his friend attempted to get one of the employees’ names, that person looked to an officer and asked, “Do I have to answer?”
So, you can call police for no reason [actually, racial bias], but you don’t want anyone to know who you are? Figures. Cowards.
NOTE: As of this publication, LA Fitness has not addressed this situation via social media or official statement.

BUT GET THIS BULLS**T…
According to Oate, after verifying they were legit with the gym, they went back to working out. However, they were approached again by management after the fact and told to leave.
“We stated that we did not do anything wrong and have active current memberships,” Oates mentions.
“[Two] mins later 5 police men show up asking us to leave. This LA Fitness manager who refused to give us his reason to kicking us out, and refused to give us his name stated that I was banned from the gym and my friend’s gym membership has been terminated effective immediately. This is ridiculous and the last video sealed the deal.”
Of course, this situation has sparked intense backlash.
Apparently, the manager knew he was in the wrong and tried everything in his power to get Oate and his friend to stop recording him on video, as seen in the video at the beginning of this article.
Maybe this particular facility hasn’t learned from all the other businesses showcasing racial bias. Perhaps they haven’t heard about how Starbucks has taken a major hit to its reputation, not to mention all the 1-star reviews left on the company’s Yelp page.
If the same happens to this particular LA Fitness, located at:
485 Harmon Meadow
Secaucus, NJ 07094
